Welcome to The Land Between, the official author website of Linda Browne.
THE LAND BETWEEN is the title of my first manuscript, a time travel historical adventure aimed at middle grade readers. It was longlisted for the 2017 Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition. I am actively looking for an agent to represent my work.
The land between is also a place where my book is set. It’s a region in Ontario, Canada, where the great Canadian Shield overlaps with the St. Lawrence Lowlands, a place where north and south collide. Neither one thing nor the other but a mixture of many, the land between is a place where plants, animals, people and stories meet up and merge. On the farm where my book is set, you can almost feel the layers of history rising up around you as you walk the land, home to many indigenous nations before the arrival of settlers and since.
If I ever travel through time, I will do it here.
I write mostly YA and Middle Grade fiction, though I’ve been known to venture into adult territory. In any genre, I like finding the grey areas where stories can be told from many different points of view; the silent spaces between words where what is left out can mean as much as what is written down.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually busy trying to solve the following equation:
day job+frugality = more writing time. (Solving it will take the rest of my life.) I love to read, go off on amazing adventures with my partner, Allison, volunteer at the housing co-op where I live, and grow herbs and vegetables, in containers, on my blazing hot balcony.
Resistance is fertile.
Thanks for stopping by!
